Chapter 35: Heilon (2)
I immediately raised my hand and slapped her on the cheek. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“AAAA!!”
The sound of flesh hitting flesh made the Countess momentarily lose her balance and collapse.
“Hukk…” May gasped, covering her mouth in shock. “Ma, Madam, are you okay?”
The Countess stared at me, her lips trembling.
“How dare you do this to me!”
Her finely painted red lipstick was smeared. I looked down at her with a rather cold gaze. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Honestly, I wanted to hit you at least once before I left.”
It was important to me to leave without regrets and feel refreshed. Otherwise, I might end up kicking my blanket every night and tearing it apart.
I continued speaking, raising my fingers one by one.
“Caindel was banished for nothing, Jen will be chased by his debts for the rest of his life. So, wouldn’t it be fair if Madam received one hit from me too?”
“What kind of nonsense is this? It seems this lowly bloodline has lost her mind. Whoever, catch this crazy bitch! Lock her up! Quickly!”
Because her hoarse cry echoed through the mansion, the maids rushed to see what was happening. Soon, people in black and white clothes appeared, each wearing a bewildered expression. Indeed, seeing the Countess sitting with swollen cheeks and me warming up my wrist in front of her was quite a sight. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“What are you looking at? Hurry up!”
The Countess’s sharp command urged several servants to approach quickly.
“Don’t even try to come close,” I warned coldly, my mind ready to set their collars on fire if they ignored me. That would create a real mess.
In the tense silence, someone shouted, “Hold on!”
A woman pushed through the crowd of maids. She was the chief maid of the Green Mansion. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Ma… Madam. There’s big trouble.”
“Can’t you see this situation? Right now—” The Countess frowned and exclaimed nervously.
However, it seemed the chief maid, Jang, was also reluctant to follow the Countess’s orders.
“There are Imperial Palace soldiers in front of the mansion. They say it’s an imperial order!”
Hearing those words, I paused. The Imperial Palace’s response was quicker than I had anticipated. I thought it would take a few more days.
“What? Why…”
The Countess, turning her head in embarrassment, made eye contact with me—more accurately, with me, who was laughing unintentionally. She then pointed at me and shouted, “It’s you! You’re behind this!”
“That’s right, Ma’am.”
I graciously acknowledged it and patted her on the shoulder as if comforting her. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Did you know that Father and Eldest Brother have been involved in the drug business? I reported it to the Imperial Palace.”
The Countess’s face turned pale as she understood the meaning of my words.
In a relaxed tone, I continued, “Perhaps you didn’t know, but when assets accumulated through illegal business are confirmed, they are all returned to the national treasury.”
“Don’t lie! Even if that happens, you’ll be punished too!” The Countess cried out, her fists clenched.
I smiled at her and pulled out the document from the envelope. It was the confirmation that I had already been expelled from the family, finalized by Jen’s stamp of the family seal. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“I’m no longer part of this family. My rights are gone, as is my responsibility.”
“I can’t believe it!” The Countess stared at me as if she were going to kill me and shouted, “You’re avenging me, who kindly raised you all this time!”
In her anger, she waved her hand to slap me, which I easily avoided. The Countess stumbled and fell by herself, her brooch bouncing off the floor.
She cried out as if she were the poorest victim in the world. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“How can she defame the family she was born into? Even a beast wouldn’t do this…”
“Countess.”
I looked at her expressionlessly.
“Actually, I was just going to let it go because I thought I might bear some responsibility and feel guilty.”
I had hesitated to take action because I didn’t want to waste my emotions, and I also thought about Fiona. She was in this position partly because of me. If I were able to meet the original Fiona, apologizing to her would be the first thing I would do.
I picked up the expensive brooch with the blue jewel. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“But when I thought about it again, I realized there wasn’t a shred of human decency in this house five years ago. Not from any of you.”
I dropped the brooch into her hand and smiled softly.
“Now, cherish this. From now on, we probably won’t see each other again.”
Then I heard the sound of heavy footsteps. Soldiers were flocking downstairs. The soldier at the front began to read the document in his hand.
“There was a report that Count Green engaged in illegal business. Therefore, by imperial order, all family properties will be frozen from this moment, and the owner must fully cooperate with future investigations…”
The Finance Department was working diligently. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
Come to think of it… there was one character in that department…
I walked through the gap between the soldiers with this unpleasant thought.
Jen and the Countess, realizing the gravity of the situation, were desperately denying reality and trying to flee. But they were clearly caught.
Of course, it wasn’t my concern. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
With everything already set in motion, the two of them bowed their heads in defeat.
I now pondered what to do next.
