Chapter 34: Heilon (2)
A letter arrived from Abel that week:
[You haven’t finished yet?]
I crumpled up the letter, feeling annoyed. He must have thought that destroying a noble family was easy, but it wasn’t, at least not for me. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
The Green family’s business was strong. It seemed that Count Green and Caindel had more business acumen than I expected. If Caindel had taken over, the business would have continued running without major issues. However, this meant I had to take a few more steps to ensure Jen became the temporary head of the family and to help him remove Caindel. The reason I chose Jen was that, despite his magical talents, he lacked a keen business sense. Even if I left things as they were, the family would collapse within a few years.
‘However, if you want to ruin something, you need to do it quickly.’
I grinned as I looked over the documents related to the family register. Once the statement declaring that I was no longer part of the Green family was stamped with the family seal, the risk of using this dirt against them would be completely eliminated. “Alright, let’s go sightseeing after checking out this Heilon mansion.”
Finally, vacation.
With a deep sigh, I looked at the paper envelope on my table. It contained an anonymous letter I had created, including documents accusing the Green family of illegal business, along with all the relevant evidence. This envelope was to be sent to the Imperial Palace’s finance department. If the accusations were confirmed, the Green family’s property would be confiscated. Given the Green family’s substantial fortune, the authorities might see this as a good opportunity to bolster the nation’s treasury.
Two days after sending the envelope, I visited Jen to congratulate him on his new position. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Congratulations on becoming the head of the family.”
“It’s still temporary.”
“Who else would be the head of the family if not you, brother?”
“Well… that’s true.”
I aimed to lift Jen’s spirits as high as possible. Then, when he suddenly hit rock bottom, the impact would be all the more devastating. It would be the worst thing that could happen.
I maintained a gentle smile, a skill I had perfected from dealing with Abel over the years. The technical term for it was ‘defying the boss.’ I smiled and handed over the document I was holding. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“It’s the one I mentioned earlier.”
“Oh, right.”
Jen reviewed the document and stamped it with the family seal. I found it a bit odd how quickly he stamped the documents. Was it really that easy to use the family seal?
Despite my curiosity, I didn’t let it bother me. With this, I was officially expelled from the Green family. True freedom at last. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
Jen waved me off and said, “Now, get out of here. I have a lot of work to do.”
There were no documents piled up on the office desk in front of Jen. It was a stark contrast to Abel’s desk, which was always cluttered with a tower of papers.
“You really do look like that,” I remarked sarcastically, though I pretended not to understand.
I carefully placed the stamped document into an envelope. With that, all my business was concluded.
“I have one last thing to tell you.”
Jen glanced up at me.
“What is it?”
I placed my hand on the office desk and leaned in slightly, whispering as if sharing a very important secret.
“There is no cure for gambling addiction, especially when you’re in debt.”
“Hey, how do you know that?”
Jen’s eyes widened in shock. It was a natural reaction, as he had carefully hidden his gambling habit.
Would I tell him how I knew?
I moved towards the door with a light, almost dance-like step. Looking back at Jen’s puzzled expression, I grinned and waved my hand. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Then, goodbye.”

As I walked down the hallway humming, I heard a shrill voice behind me.
“Why are you still here?”
I turned around to see the Countess, lavishly adorned, standing not far away. The hem of her puffy dress, which touched the floor, was in line with the latest trend. May, the maid following her, bowed her head as our eyes met. Her shoulders were trembling; she must have been quite shocked after the last time she was slapped.
The Countess’s red lips twisted into a scowl as she laughed.
“A shameless thing. Don’t think you can suck the life out of your older brother and stay here. Get out.”
“I’ll leave without your urging, Ma’am,” I replied softly. Then I approached the Countess. As I looked at her face, there was one thing I wanted to do before I left.
“I just remembered the last thing I need to do before I go.”
At my words, the Countess raised an eyebrow in puzzlement. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
Seeing her expression, I smiled softly. As the distance between us narrowed, she took a step back.
“Don’t come near me. It’s very unpleasant.”
“Don’t worry. It’ll be over soon.”
It didn’t take long. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
