Chapter 29: Heilon (1)

SLAP!

Suddenly, her cheek felt like it was on fire. May was struck so hard that her head spun. She put her hand on her cheek, dumbfounded, and stared at the girl in front of her. What shocked her even more was the expression on Fiona’s face. Fiona, who had just slapped her, was now smiling sweetly and lovingly. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.

“As I said yesterday, I’m glad this family doesn’t seem to have changed.”

“Hey! What is this?!” May cried out in a hoarse voice.

Fiona took a step closer to the embarrassed May.

Suddenly, the air in the room grew icy. There was no strong wind, but the windows began to tremble.

May felt an unknown pressure. But she knew it wasn’t just because she had been slapped.

“May, what did you do wrong?”

Despite Fiona’s bright smile, May felt a profound fear. Her lungs felt tight.

“Lady Fiona, did you realize that when you did this, you would be the one in trouble?” May bit her lips tightly, clinging to her last shred of pride. “I will report this to the Countess right now. If she hears about this, you will never be able to stand still—”

SLAP!

May felt a sharp pain in her cheek again. When she looked up, she saw only a calm smile on Fiona’s face. The expression, so out of place in the situation, felt eerie. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.

“Who am I, May?” Fiona asked softly.

May stuttered, “Y-You’re Lady Fiona…”

At that moment, the fireplace flared up.

“KYAAAA!”

The window trembled violently, and the curtains flapped wildly.

Startled by the inexplicable phenomenon, May collapsed in fear.

Fiona bent slightly and looked down at May with a smile on her face.

May was bewildered. Fiona’s behavior was unbelievable, yet she maintained a gentle expression on her face. The more May looked at her, the more she noticed that while Fiona’s expression was kind, her eyes were cold. An unsettling fear crept in from the way Fiona was looking at her.

‘This can’t be…’

What May didn’t know was that Fiona had fought against formidable adversaries for a long time. Though not as skilled as Sigren, Fiona’s presence alone could terrify an ordinary maid. Moreover, her uncontrolled magical powers were running wild due to her anger. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.

“In Heilon, where I’ve lived for five years, I even cut off the tongue of a servant who dared to talk back to their master like this,” Fiona whispered as if reminiscing.

“Sometimes, there was the punishment of plucking out their eyes.”

At these cruel words, May’s body shook with fear.

“So, what kind of punishment does the capital impose?”

May couldn’t answer. It wasn’t a matter of rebellion; her tongue felt numb. She was shocked and terrified. No noble lady in the capital ever spoke of such severe punishments as cutting off tongues or plucking out eyes.

“….”

Fiona placed a hand on May’s cheek and said in a sad tone, “Oh, my. What happened to the confidence you had a moment ago? Why are you so quiet?”

She gently stroked May’s cheek as if her white hand were offering comfort. However, her words contradicted her actions. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.

“If you don’t answer, I’ll have to follow Heilon’s way. After all, wouldn’t it be better if I cut off the tongue that spoke so daringly earlier?”

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, my Lady.”

May was so terrified that she began to shed tears.

“May, tell me. Who am I?” Fiona asked in a somber tone.

May instinctively realized that this was her last chance. The woman before her was not just a foolish illegitimate child; she was someone who could carry out her threats.

‘I must be out of my mind…’

“You are Lady Fiona of the Green family…” May managed to swallow her tears and barely whispered.

Fiona smiled satisfactorily. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.

“Then what should you do?”

May quickly bowed her head.

“I won’t do anything presumptuous again. Please forgive me.”

“Good. As you should.”

Fiona then rose from her seat.

As she walked away, May secretly sighed in relief. She was about to report to the Countess immediately.

However, contrary to May’s expectations, it didn’t end there.

SPLASH!

Fiona poured the water from the washbasin onto May. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.

“….”

May was left speechless, drenched in the foul-smelling water. The water dripped down her hair and chin.

Fiona looked down at May with an arrogant gaze. There was no trace of a smile on her face. She was as expressionless as ice, her previous gentleness clearly a mask. Fiona turned her back and said in an icy tone, “If you try any more tricks, I won’t let it go.”

BANG!

The door slammed shut. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
