Sigren glanced at Fiona, who was standing a little distance away. She had just summoned a thunderbolt from a clear sky, demonstrating her impressive magical power. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
‘So she is really the battlemage of the second wall’
Sigren could finally see that fact in front of his eyes. She was different from other mages he had encountered. He had seen many mercenaries boast about their magical abilities. Even the toughest mercenaries would be startled by a mage creating a fist-sized fireball from thin air. The ability to conjure something out of nothing was genuinely intimidating to the general public.
This was the first time Sigren had seen a mage capable of such feats at such a young age.
‘I see why Duke Heilon keeps bringing her along,’ he thought
Lost in thought, Sigren watched as Fiona diligently reviewed the personal information and crimes of the mercenaries from the documents she held. Her voice rang out clearly in the village square.
Everyone focused on Fiona, who stood confidently in the center of the square. Despite the disdain and complaints from those who felt abandoned by the Duke for sending her, they were silenced by her presence. It was a striking scene: a small girl standing resolutely before a group of rugged men on their knees. Whatever happened here, people would remember it vividly.
‘Don’t tell me, Duke Heilon is aiming for this.’
Perhaps the Duke intended to demonstrate that Fiona was no ordinary girl and spread rumors about her throughout the land. If this was indeed the Duke’s plan, it seemed to be working. Fiona’s treatment at Heilon Castle was exceptional for someone considered merely a valuable soldier. The Duke was not one to act without reason, so there must be a purpose behind it. ‘What does Duke Abel Heilon want from Fiona?’ Sigren pondered.
But as he was now back at the Fourth Wall, it seemed unlikely he would ever discover the answer. Moreover, from his position as an orphan boy in the mercenary corps, there was little he could do to influence Fiona’s fate.
Sigren’s thoughts turned somewhat cynical.
‘I wonder if I’ll see Fiona again after this.’
He had heard she wanted to be friends, but such promises could easily be broken. In fact, Fiona might return to Heilon Manor, forget about him, and lead a busy life. She could easily find other children, as orphans like him were everywhere.
Sigren looked up as Fiona spoke.
“—So, I’ll give you two options.”
With a clear voice, Fiona held up two fingers. The sunlight glinted off her fine silver hair.
“First choice: leave the wall naked.”
While her words suggested they could leave, it essentially meant they would be expelled. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Second choice—”
Fiona pointed to an intimate part of the mercenaries’ clothing and spoke cheerfully.
“—have it cut off.”
“….”
A profound silence fell over the village square. The mercenaries’ faces turned not just white but blue with fear.
Fiona tilted her head, as if asking, “Didn’t expect such severe punishment?”
Sigren’s expression mirrored her own. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
This was indeed the northern way. The punishment was straightforward: thieves had their wrists cut off, and those who molested women faced harsher consequences. There was no room for sympathy.
“Of course, I’ll offer you some mercy,” Fiona said, regardless of the tense atmosphere. She clapped her hands and concluded the discussion with a cheerful tone.
“So it’s up to you to decide.”
