Chapter 125: A Battle of Sincerity
“I’m glad I could be part of this delegation,” Fiona chattered happily. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
Her carefree attitude about the whole situation made Sigren even more anxious. She had almost died, yet instead of expressing a desire to avoid such experiences in the future, she continued to chat cheerfully.
“Why?” he asked, unable to hide his concern.
“We discovered many things. Also, it turns out the people from the academy are better than I thought.”
Sigren bit the inside of his mouth. Of course, they would show her a favorable attitude; they owed her their lives.
Fiona looked at Sigren with enthusiasm. “Also, it turns out I’m more capable than I thought.”
He reached out to untangle her messy hair. “What do you mean?”
“The Darkness—it was hard, but I could definitely control it.”
She had managed to control something akin to a natural disaster; what an incredible power she possessed. Fiona smiled brightly, finding a silver lining in discovering another ability after such a horrifying experience. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“I’m sure I’ll be a great help in the future.”
“You don’t have to,” Sigren said, his voice cold.
“Why?” Fiona’s eyes widened at his unexpected reaction. At the very least, he could congratulate her, even if he was in a bad mood.
Sigren frowned at her. “Don’t do that again.”
Fiona became sullen at his cold response. To be honest, she had sensed his silent, detached demeanor since they had been lying together in the barrack.
“It’s ridiculous, it’s reckless.”
Fiona was choked up. She wouldn’t have cared if anyone else had done this to her, but when he denied her like this, with such a cold tone, her heart sank. I’m someone who almost kissed death; can you please show me some kindness?
“But what I did was right.”
“I don’t think so.”
Fiona clenched her jaw. What the hell? Somehow, Sigren was even more annoying than before. When she had been lying down with him, he had been so sweet. That was why she thought his detached attitude stemmed from sadness. Now, even the way he spoke irritated her. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“I was in charge at that time. That was a good decision.” Who wouldn’t be scared in that situation? She had been scared, too. Her survival instinct had been on high alert. But how could the person in charge be the first to run away when disaster struck? If she had fled first, many people would have lost their lives. Fiona wanted to avoid such a situation at all costs.
“And also, knowing about the Darkness could help you too—”
“But I don’t need that kind of help.” Sigren’s tone was harsher than before.
“….”
Sigren realized he had spoken too harshly, but it was too late to take it back. He looked directly at Fiona, only to see tears welling up in the corners of her eyes. A single tear rolled down her pale cheek. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Ahh…”
For a moment, Sigren felt bewildered. This was the second time he had seen her cry, and an alarm rang in his head. He wiped her tears away with his finger.
“Fiona…”
He panicked. How should I soothe her?
But Fiona slapped his hand away.
“You… idiot!”
Sigren felt even more panicked at her stubborn refusal.
“If I bother you, you should talk to me properly. Don’t throw your sarcasm at me!”
“Wait—”
But Fiona was really angry. “Go away.”
She rubbed her eyes with her sleeve and turned around, shouting, “Don’t follow me!”
After hearing her strong refusal, Sigren roughly swept his hand across his face. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“It’s not like that.” Sigren let out a deep sigh. I didn’t mean to hurt you.

My lips twisted into a wry smile. We were adults, yet we fought like children. This was probably the first time we had argued like this. Our relationship had changed; there were things we did while dating that we never did as friends. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
Still, a part of me felt annoyed. I had told him not to follow me, and he was actually respecting my wishes! What an idiot! Did being unconscious for two days really bother him that much?
I hung my head and wiped away the tears that were still flowing. Right now, I wasn’t crying out of sadness; it was more about my irritation. If Abel saw me like this, it would be a big problem.
“What are you doing here?”
I recognized Gunther’s voice without needing to look up.
“Go on your way, Gunther.”
I didn’t want him to see my tear-streaked face; it made me feel like a child. The reason I cried was because I had fought with Sigren, after all.
But Gunther stood still.
I sighed and finally raised my head.
“Why are you crying?”
“I think it’s difficult to get an answer when you ask a question straightforwardly.”
Gunther seemed restless at the sight of my tears. His reaction was similar to Sigren’s, which I found a bit funny. They were both really bad at comforting women. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
Gunther reached out his hand but stopped midway. “Well, since your guardian asked me to protect you, let’s deal with the child who made you cry first.”
“Don’t tell me that’s your way of comforting me?”
I felt like my guess had hit the mark. Gunther’s expression turned complicated, and I let out a brief laugh.
“Let’s not. The child who made me cry is quite handsome.”
My arms were still bent inward [1]. It wouldn’t be worth it if he got hurt. ([1] Arms bent inward=favor)
“Besides, if you hit him, you’d be insulting the royal family.”
“What a dirty world it is.”
Gunther muttered, “It’s the prince.”
“I hope you don’t think all humans are like Sigren. He’s a special case.”
I smiled and looked at him. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“What are you going to do when you arrive in the Capital?”
“I’ll be in the Capital for a while. I need to see my colleagues and take care of my mercenaries.”
“I thought you moved alone?”
