Chapter 90: The Choice is Yours
I found Sigren as soon as I returned to the ballroom. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Sig—sh, Your Highness, have you been waiting for a long time?”
“No.”
It was a very simple answer, but his expression didn’t look good at all.
I lowered my voice and asked, “Is something wrong?”
Sigren lowered his voice as well. “I can see something has happened to you.”
“Me?”
Well, I was overjoyed. To put it bluntly, it was like the feeling a salesperson gets when they win a big contract.
“There’s no problem. It’s just that Lady Livya…” I whispered in Sigren’s ear, then lowered my voice further, “she asked me to hang out with her.”
Sigren flinched and tilted his head back. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
Was that tickling?
“Why?”
“She doesn’t want to change her family’s neutral political position, but the crown prince’s side keeps bothering her, yet she really dislikes the crown prince. It seems she wanted me to give her a bit of support.”
“I hate him too.”
“Same.”
I pulled Sigren out of the ballroom and took him to an empty terrace. I suddenly realized that we were basically talking behind the crown prince’s back. I couldn’t help but feel conscious of people overhearing us. It was a dangerous subject, after all. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
Sigren leaned against the railing and tilted his head. “But I don’t want to lose your time with me to her.”
“Ha.”
I laughed lightly. This guy knew how to joke around.
Sigren lowered his head. “I’m not joking.”
“Oh, right.”
Speaking of Livya, I suddenly remembered what she had said earlier. That piece of information… I needed to share it with Sigren right away, or I’d forget.
“That’s not what’s important right now.”
“You didn’t listen to me seriously, did you?”
“Huh? Okay, I’ll hang out with you often, don’t worry. However—”
“…”
Livya mentioned that Sigren didn’t remember her. I was a bit surprised, given Sigren’s usual good memory. But then I realized this wasn’t good. Forgetting the faces of other nobles was a serious issue. In noble society, remembering people’s faces was a basic and very important skill. More importantly, Livya was from the Priscilla family—an important business partner. We shouldn’t make them our opponents but rather bring them to our side.
“Sigren, you need to remember the faces of other noble ladies. It’s not hard, especially someone like Lady Livya with her unique bearing. It should be easy.”
If he couldn’t remember Livya, it likely meant he struggled with remembering other ladies, including Eunice.
Speaking of Eunice, in the original story, Livya was a villain who tormented Eunice. However, it didn’t seem like Livya was harassing Eunice now. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com. Instead, it appeared her interest was leaning towards me. Fortunately, in the original story, Livya’s character didn’t have a direct conflict with Fiona, so I wasn’t overly concerned about our interaction.
“What did Lady Priscilla say about me?”
“You’re the first man who couldn’t remember her.”
“…”
Sigren looked dumbfounded.
“That hurt her pride, so let’s make sure we remember people’s faces well,” I said earnestly.
“If I listen to you… You don’t have to spend time with that lady, do you?”
“Stop treating Lady Livya as if she’s some sort of strange person…”
Sigren seemed to be taking it seriously. After a moment of thought, he pulled me closer.
Why? Was he trying to persuade me using the “beauty” method?
“Fiona.”
A soft voice was heard near my ear.
“It would be more fun to spend time with me than with Lady Priscilla.”
‘Wait, is he really trying to convince me?’
“This much, I’m not going to fall for it…”
“….”
Sigren took my hand, gently stroking each of my fingers and kissing them. It tickled.
Sigren raised the corners of his lips, a hint of allure escaping from his usually straight face. It was a smile designed to attract anyone who saw it. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“So, you really want me to try harder, hm?”
Well, that did work a bit.
“Sigren… aren’t you showing off your charm too much just because you know I’m weak to your face?!”
Where was the innocent guy who blushed after seeing his own kiss mark? I really didn’t understand what Sigren’s baseline for embarrassment was.
I put my palms on his cheeks and pressed his face firmly, feeling slightly wronged.
‘Give me back my cute Sigren, who trembled just from touching my fingers!’
I said firmly, “No, I’m going to spend time with Lady Livya.”
“Too bad…”
Sigren clicked his tongue lightly.
Honestly, why was he so determined to keep me away from a same-sex friend?
I glanced up at him. Seeing his nonchalant face, I felt even more wronged. It made me very embarrassed. Did he think he was the only one who could do this kind of skinship? I knew how to do it too.
Thinking that, I took Sigren’s hands and kissed the back of them. Sigren tried to pull his hands away, surprised, but I held on tightly, so his attempt failed. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
“Fiona, you…!”
Of course, I ignored his protest. I tried to replicate what Sigren had done to my fingers. But when I did it, I was embarrassed too. I stopped after kissing two of his fingers. When I looked up, Sigren’s face was faintly red.
I murmured at the sight, “The effect is amazing.”
Sigren grunted.
“Right, it must be great.”
“You don’t seem to mind doing anything to me.”
“Because I want to touch you,” Sigren replied proudly. Read the translation only on itsladygrey.com.
